on April 2, 2005, 7 leading Vietnamese Fisheries & Aquaculture institutes decided to establish a consortium for closer cooperation.
The consortium was named ViFINET which stands for 'Vietnam Fishery & Aquaculture Institution Network'. 

All the Network’s members agreed to:

• Collaborate in training and research
• Share relevant information and existing resources
• Demonstrate the Network’s capacity of consulting the Ministry of Fisheries for sustainable development
• Seek for possible financial support in order to improve training and research capacity of all the Network’s members and
• Conduct other actvities where mutual interest exists among the Network’s members.
